Few meters far from Ferrari's factory at Maranello, but the track is located in commune of Fiorano Modenese (Modena - Emilia Romagna)


Ferrari private proving ground built in 1971 and inaugurated in April 1972. When it was evident that the old Aerautodromo di Modena circuit would have been son closed, Ferrari decided to built a track on a field he owned, few meters far from Maranello factory. Track layout reproduces some famous bends of European circuits, but I was never able to understand what bends and what circuits. In 1984 and 1985 there were two proposal, both not developed: to reverse direction and to buy a close field in order to lenghen the track, by adding some fast bends. In 1992 chicane was built on main straight. At beginning of 1996 the old corners 1, 2 and 3 were replaced by a new faster bend, but however the old track is available until today
Total: 3000 m - 1.865 mi
Corners: 1661 m - 1.032 mi
Straights: 1339 m - 0.832 mi


At the end of 1995 the track is not anymore suitable for modern testing requirements. So the track was sold by Piero Ferrari to Ferrari and old corners 1, 2 and 3 were replaced by a new faster bend. Old corners are anyway still available. I don't know when these works were done, but I think in January 1996: actually the first test on the new layout I know was performed by Irvine at mid February 1996. Later some safety improvements were made, but without changing track layout. On September 5th 2004 first stage of Rally del Frignano was held on this track, 3 laps. I think it was the first time Fiorano was used for an official competition.
Without chicane: 2976 m - 1.850 mi
With chicane: 2997 m - 1.863 mi

PS: Im anderen Forum ist die Frage scheints untergegangen, drum hier nochmal: Was ist denn der "GPL 65 Mod Version 2.0.1"?
Habe ich was verpasst? Kenne nur meinen 65er Mod, und den würde ich für die "Urversion" halten... Oder hiess der schon immer so?
