RE: Results and press conference Hockenheim
with little expectation i travelled towards the sunny hockenheim to race my first season in 1966.
Also with not very much expirience at hockenheim ( only 1 day testing ) i didnt had any hopes of a good result.
The race started pretty clean. My first gear was very long because i needed that to accelerate quikcly in the tight bends. So starting was not my main focus.
After 3 laps due to the slipstream i was able to close the gap towards the front and could join Wolfgang, Paul and Stu. It was really incredible to see what he was capable off driving in that low powered eagle. He overtook me on the outside at the ostkurve.
Because of the slipstream i found myself at P1 in lap 4. Wolfgang had the tow behind me, Stu went off somewhere, and Paul was in a strong 3rd position.
Entering the stadium part i blocked wolfgangs raceline, but to make it through the corner i had the return to my racingline as well. Sadly Wolfgang was there and he did hit me from behind. With a damaged suspension i decided to use a shift-r, and entered the pits to make a stop and go.
From there it was just basicly driving consistently my laps trying to close the gap. I had some nice battles with Julien. Due to 2 small misstakes ( driving wide entering last corner and going wide after start finish ) wolfgang was able to close the gap behind me. It was really just a matter of time for myself holding him off to enter my slipstream. Sadly my efforts didnt had any result, so we battled for about 5 laps. Wolfgang kept his head cool and stood behind, except the last lap. I knew that this was coming so i tried to open a a gap. However this was not enough, and while entering the stadium we found ourselfs in the same situation as just after the start. Wolfgang positioned himself behind me. I blocked the inner line, braked late, later, but just too late, so that Wolfgang had a better exit in that corner. There was no chance for myself of catching him up after that since we were in the last lap anyway. Nicely done mate!
congrats to Remy! the cooper was really pretty fast. It was apparent that even in the slipstream it was hard to get by. Furthermore a shame that Stu didnt finished the race. I believe it would have been smarter to stay behind the faster cars, and when the moment comes to strike. But anyway.....hes a racer, and a pretty fast one ;-)
lets head to Bugatti circuit. That will be a tough choice with my BRMH16.
